Outlining The Process of Malignant Mesothelioma Diagnosis – New York Attorney Joe Williams explains
Listen as New York attorney Joe Williams outlines the malignant mesothelioma diagnosis process.
The diagnosis often occurs many years after an individual has been exposed to asbestos during their working career. Symptoms typically include general weakness, loss of weight and shortness of breath.
You may first visit your regular doctor, or perhaps a lung doctor, and an X-Ray or another similar test is done to view the chest and lungs. If the test shows some type of abnormality, a surgeon can perform a biopsy to obtain a definitive diagnosis as to whether or not this is malignant mesothelioma.
A healthy lung is a spongy organ, and when the lung tissue is adhesed and scarred over, it’s known as asbestosis. Asbestos is an indestructible fiber that stays in the lung forever and causes cellular damage and fibrosis scarring. Asbestosis is a signal of a lifelong exposure to asbestos.
